In absolute agreement with "truthhurts". Probably 7 out of 10 Grand Old West Days are in awful weather. It is either raining and windy...or snowing and windy. It is just too early in the season. We have three events going on in the same weekend and it isn't easy to give all three our best support. If they are worried about an event being too big by combining GOWD and Whittle The Wood and the YL car show....there are other weekends in the summer that are currently completely boring! Try scheduling something just for Grand Old West Days alone. Spread the activities out a bit so we could really enjoy the event. Keep the Memorial weekend for families celebrating our graduations, and honoring our Military.

I would like to know where people got the idea that natural gas production is somehow more benign to the environment than coal. Just take a drive from Rifle to Debeque and look at the landscape or read what the people of the Grand Valley are dealing with. Tainted wells, chemical contamination of the air from benzene, just the general destruction of land and views by the drilling and the pipelines and the huge compressor stations. They have tried to hide them by painting them and "natural" brown, but the whole valley is a mess. How is that better than an underground mine that takes up maybe 25-40 acres of surface ground that can be reclaimed to a nearly natural state when the mine is finally done? The front range doesn't have to see the damage done on the western slope by the natural gas industry so it must be better than coal....how about the big cities try converting to solar first...then when they have done that to off-set the energy from the coal fired powerplants, the mines can be phased out.

So much for the "honor" system....They make personal monitoring devices for people on house arrest and those who are not supposed to drink.(think Hollywood starlets)..maybe they should have a proximity alarm on these inmates..if.they are more than a mile from where they should be, trip an alarm and stop them from just walking away. Too expensive you say. How much did it cost the police department in man hours to try to find him?

I agree this shouldn't have happened...but anyone who has kids knows, sometimes they can get away from you. Remember the little girl getting out of the house in the winter and walking in the snow near Steamboat until she had frostbite? This kind of thing happens. Most of the time the kid isn't taking a stroll next to a busy highway, just headed along the sidewalk..but yeah.....kids are sometimes pretty good escape artists.

I wonder if she wasn't traveling anywhere on the other side of the divide when they had a bunch of snow on the ground a couple days ago. Maybe there just isn't enough snow to ski yet and she'll show up when there is.

I think it is a good idea. I don't see much difference between an ATV and the scooters you see cruising around town. What are the legal requirements for those? Apply the same rules to a machine with 4 wheels instead of two.

I know it is illegal to harrass wildlife...but I think these city deer need just that to persuade them that there is some risk in being so close to people. You don't have to kill them to get the point across, but maybe a few bean bag rounds and firecrackers would do for starts. We better have DOW and or law enforcement or both do something, especially this time of year. The bucks are beginning to get a bit short-tempered and one of these days a bunch of kids going to school are going to come across that big ol' buck up by the sandrocks and he's not going to give ground.

selket42 5 years, 4 months ago on Do you think the city of Craig should consider revising its planning and zoning standards?

All this complaining started apparently with one contractor deciding he didn't like the idea of proper sidewalks and drains, and maybe a new building that looks like a solid structure, not a pre-fab tin building. I see nothing wrong with expecting new buildings to look like somebody cared to build something that will be here for generations,...not the back lot of an industrial zone

Wow...it's amazing just how fast a discussion can deteriorate into a name calling...and yes bonnie, you did start the name calling, in the 8th of your postings...you called me sir...and said I was ignorant...wrong on both assumptions. Why didn't you have your dogs spayed or neutered...you said you took in a dog and didn't realize she was in heat. Was the baby daddy your male? If you are telling everyone here you are such a responsible dog owner...why haven't you neutered and or spayed...then you wouldn't have 11 pits. And if you have them all by choice...good luck...eventually you will need it.

eastsidebonnie....the ONLY provocation the dogs would have been justified in that kind of attack on a human is if Mr. G. on their property...kicking the crud out of their owner or something like that....the definition of a protective dog. However....they were running at large...not under the control of their owner, and dogs being dogs.....when they see something running...instinct kicks in and they will either follow it,...or grab it....that's just what they do. And since there was more than one dog...it becomes a pack...not something you want...especially if it is a dog capable of inflicting massive and perhaps fatal damage to whatever they are chasing!! Not the dogs fault...hmmm...what line did they cross when they attacked a human???
