Robert Razzano won the nod for the county assessor position in the Republican primary election Tuesday.

Razzano, who is currently Moffat County treasurer, defeated Moffat County deputy assessor Carol Scott with 1,286 votes to 1,035, according to results released Tuesday from the Moffat County elections department.

There were 2,321 total votes cast for assessor, according to the results.

“It’s definitely the result I was looking for,” Razzano said. “It was a long process, but I just tried to stay positive, and I’m glad it came out this way.”

Razzano, a lifetime Craig resident, is term-limited in the treasurer’s office after serving two terms. He previously worked in the assessor’s office for 11 years as the senior county appraiser.

Razzano petitioned his way onto the primary ballot and finished Tuesday’s primary with more than 55 percent of the votes.

He will likely take office in January, as there are no Democratic or write-in candidates for the assessor position to date, inheriting the position from the term-limited assessor Suzanne Brinks.

“I feel like I ran a clean campaign and I was happy to see so many people come out and give me their support,” Razzano said. “I’m just so glad about all the support I received. I have a lot of people to thank.”

Scott, who held the deputy assessor position for eight years, said she was displeased with the results of Tuesday’s election.

“It’s disappointing,” she said. “That’s your natural reaction.”

Following several months of campaigning, Scott said she was hoping for a different result.

“I would like to say it’s a relief,” she said. “But, it’s not the way I hoped it would have ended.”

Scott said she is contemplating what she could have done differently in her campaign.

“You tend to second guess yourself,” she said. “You feel like you should have done something more, or done something different.

“Finding that out won’t come easily.”
